st-900-dc
ST 900 DC

The Audes ST-900DC power conditioner is designed for powering high-end and Hi-Fi AV equipment. It features five outputs with a total power of 900 W. The main element of the device is a 230 VAC/115 + 115 VAC toroidal transformer developed by Audes, which isolates the equipment from the household power grid. Despite the considerable power of such transformers, the design of the power conditioner completely eliminates harmful electromagnetic radiation.

A special winding technique for the transformer and a high-quality transformer core are used. These primarily provide the filtering effect. The ST-900DC transformer was designed to operate as a low-pass filter with a cutoff at 800 Hz, as all electrical grid disturbances occur at much higher frequencies. Secondly, the filtering effect is caused by the self-induction of a very large core, so that the magnetic flux cannot change immediately in the event of a transient disturbance. And finally, the transformer prevents DC offset in the grid from reaching the devices connected to the power conditioner. High-quality CEE 7/3 sockets are galvanically isolated from an external power grid. The transformer is equipped with reliable electrostatic shielding. Incoming electrical disturbances are counteracted on the principle of mutual cancellation. The secondary winding of the transformer is divided into two halves and has an artificial center tap connected to the ground terminals of each socket. All the above technical aspects make it possible to almost completely eliminate mains noise and ensure a reliable, high-quality power supply for audio equipment.

Using the ST-900DC with all AV equipment, both solid-state and tube devices, improves the quality of sound reproduction. The best results are achieved when the power conditioner is used with power amplifiers. During highly dynamic sections of an audio, a powerful amplifier must draw considerable current surges from a power supply, which can reach magnitudes of 50-100 A, while maintaining voltage levels without dips. An ordinary household socket, connected to a distribution board via long power cables, is unable to deliver such currents due to its relatively high output impedance. The ST-900DC has a very low DC output resistance and can therefore easily deliver high current surges without voltage dips. This is achieved by using a transformer with a very large core and a high number of turns in the primary winding. As a result, inductance is minimized. In turn, the reaction time of a power amplifier to a changing audio signal is shortened, which has a positive effect on the reproduction of transients, especially in the lower frequency ranges. An audio reproduction system exhibits a larger dynamic range.

Audes power conditioners feature overload protection and thermal protection, which switches off the transformer if its temperature reaches 90 °C. Once the temperature has dropped to 75 °C, the device automatically reconnects to the power supply.

In the ST-900DC, ST-1500, ST-3000, and ST-5000 models, Audes' proprietary DC Blocker is installed. This serves to eliminate hum from DC components in the mains. It is an in-house development that operates in a sound-neutral way and thus does not diminish the sound improvement from the power conditioner.
