AT-VMx series cartridges bring new warmth and realism to Audio-Technica's premium dual moving magnet phono cartridge line, offering a wide, vibrant, and detailed soundstage.

Like all our MM cartridges, these models closely mimic the design of a cutting head used to produce vinyl master discs. They use two magnets positioned to correspond to the left and right channels of the stereo record groove – for outstanding channel separation and extended frequency response. The new VMx series also introduces materials and designs that provide even finer sound and particularly precise responses to the dynamics of the music.

All VMx cartridges feature a generator with a para-toroidal coil construction, where two coils per channel, arranged in series, significantly improve efficiency. Additionally, a shielding plate in the middle separates the left and right channels, which reduces crosstalk and contributes to a clean stereo image. The coils of the new series use high-purity, ultra-drawable PCUHD® copper wire (Pure Copper Ultra High Drawability), enabling fuller, more nuanced audio reproduction. To optimize transient response, the number of turns in these coils has also been slightly reduced, allowing the cartridge to react faster to signal changes. This results in an incredibly clear, direct sound – as if it were live. The lightweight Microlinear stylus of the AT-VM740xML tracks the record groove with incredible precision and excels in particularly fine audio reproduction that elliptical and conical styli cannot match.

Furthermore, we have equipped the die-cast aluminum bodies of our VMx cartridges with threaded inserts, which simplify mounting (only two screws required). This is particularly helpful for integrated tonearms, as commonly found on high-end turntables. Last but not least, the new V-shaped cutout in the hinged protective cover allows a quick view of the stylus at all times and serves as a guide when lowering the stylus onto the record.

All AT-VMx series cartridges feature identical bodies and interchangeable styli, so they can be combined with almost all AT-VMx replacement styli*. This allows you to quickly and easily experiment with different sound characteristics.
