Michi Q5 Transport DAC for CD and Digital Sources
The Michi Q5 is designed as a transport DAC, D/A converter, and high-performance CD player for high-quality audio systems. In addition to CD playback, the device also processes external digital sources via PC-USB, as well as coaxial and optical inputs. This allows the Michi Q5 to handle both classic CD operation and the integration of other digital players in one device.
Top-loading CD Mechanism with Sophisticated Design
A key feature of the Michi Q5 is its top-loading CD mechanism made of high-quality CNC-machined aluminum. The CD mechanism is mounted on a floating suspension to reduce unwanted vibrations and isolate the motor from sensitive electronic circuits. This design creates a stable and precise playback platform for CDs and is one of the features that makes the Q5 special.
DAC and Fully Balanced Design
At the heart of the Michi Q5, the ESS ES9028PRO functions as an 8-channel DAC. Four channels are used for each of the left and right stereo tracks to achieve high-precision digital-to-analog conversion. This is complemented by a fully balanced and differential circuit design, as well as two toroidal transformers that isolate digital and analog power supplies from each other, reducing noise and interference. Together with the balanced XLR outputs and analog RCA outputs, the Q5 is designed for clean and controlled signal processing.
Versatile Connections and Flexible Use in an Audio System
The Michi Q5 supports PC-USB up to 32-bit / 384 kHz, as well as coaxial and optical signals up to 24-bit / 192 kHz. Additionally, native DSD, DoP, MQA, MQA Studio, and Roon Tested are supported. CD audio is also available via coaxial and optical CD outputs, so the Q5 can also be used as a pure CD transport. This combination of CD playback, high-quality D/A conversion, and broad compatibility with digital sources is a significant distinguishing feature of the device.
Display, Operation, and Integration
The front of the Michi Q5 features a TFT color display. Operation includes buttons on the device, a remote control, and interfaces for RS232, Ethernet, EXT REM IN, and 12V TRIG.
