Description
McIntosh C22 Preamplifier Mk V: Analog Tube Preamplifier for 2-Channel Hi-Fi
Tube Technology with Visible Vacuum Tubes
The C22 Mk V operates with five 12AX7A and one 12AT7 tubes. The tubes are visible through a glass window on the top and are part of the preamplifier's technical and optical character.
Seven Analog Inputs for Versatile Hi-Fi Systems
The preamplifier offers a total of seven analog inputs. These include two balanced inputs, three unbalanced inputs, and one phono input each for Moving Coil and Moving Magnet.
Flexible Phono Adjustment for Turntables
Separate MM and MC phono inputs are available for turntables. The capacitance for MM and the impedance for MC can be adjusted so that the cartridge can be properly integrated.
Tone Control with Bypass
Bass and treble can be adjusted via rotary controls. The tone control is deactivatable, so that the signal is reproduced without bass and treble correction if desired.
Two Output Pairs for Power Amplifiers
The C22 Mk V has two balanced and two unbalanced variable output pairs. This allows signals to be sent to two separate power amplifiers .
Headphone Connection with HXD
The 6.3 mm headphone jack is supported by a High Drive headphone amplifier . According to the manufacturer, HXD technology improves spatial localization when listening via headphones by simulating a directional component of loudspeaker reproduction.
Operation with Classic Controls, Modern Display, and
Remote Control
Control is via rotary knobs and toggle switches on the front. LED indicators show input selection and volume, making the operation appear classic but remaining clearly legible. Additionally, a remote control is included, which conveniently extends operations.
Integration into McIntosh Systems
Power Control can automatically switch connected McIntosh components on and off. Data Ports enable basic functions of connected McIntosh sources via the remote control.
Ideal Placement in the Room
The C22 Mk V can stand on a table or shelf or be integrated into furniture. For installation, at least 15.24 cm of free space upwards, 5.08 cm downwards, and 2.54 cm sideways are provided. Furthermore, the preamplifier should not be placed directly above a component generating a lot of heat, such as a powerful amplifier .
Design with Glass, Aluminum, and Stainless Steel
The front consists of black glass and aluminum in the classic McIntosh style. The housing uses a polished stainless steel chassis; logo, controls , and LED indicators adopt the typical McIntosh look.
