Description
Matrix Audio NT-1: Network Streaming for Your Existing DAC
The Matrix Audio NT-1 is a digital streaming transport for systems with a separate DAC or an amplifier with a suitable digital input. It adds streaming services, internet radio, and playback of your own music files to your existing system. The conversion to an analog signal is left to your existing device.
Matrix Audio NT-1 Features at a Glance
- Music selection: Manage streaming and your own albums via the MA Remote app.
- Music archive: Integrate NAS and USB storage or add an internal SSD.
- System connection: Use various digital outputs for your existing converter.
- Network and expansion: Wired connection with optional fiber-optic connectivity.
Select and Discover Music with the Matrix Audio NT-1
You don't have to leave your familiar streaming app to listen to a new album: TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, and Spotify Connect are available for direct music selection. AirPlay 2, Roon Ready, and DLNA/UPnP are also supported.
The MA Remote app for iPhone, iPad, and Android combines your own library with device control. You can view album art and track information on the display, as well as control playback and the queue. Smart Wake Up can automatically wake the NT-1 when music playback starts.
Your Own Collection on the Matrix Audio NT-1
Albums already stored on a NAS can be integrated into the music library. Two ports are available for USB storage; an optional internal NVMe SSD provides space for a music archive directly on the device.
This archive remains accessible from a computer on the same network. Other streamers can also access the stored music, so the collection is not limited to a single system.
With a separately available USB CD drive, the NT-1 also plays CDs and imports their contents as files into the archive. This is practical if you want to select your own CD collection together with streaming music in the future.
Continue Using Your Existing DAC with the Matrix Audio NT-1
Optical and coaxial outputs, as well as AES/EBU, connect the NT-1 to suitable digital inputs. A dedicated, electrically isolated output is available for a USB DAC. IIS-LVDS offers another connection option, provided the converter supports the appropriate pinout.
Active speakers with a suitable digital input can also be integrated. For this, digital volume control can be enabled. When choosing a connection, the supported audio formats on both sides must match.
Network and Expansion of the Matrix Audio NT-1
The network connection is made via an Ethernet cable. The additional SFP slot also enables a fiber-optic connection or an additional Ethernet port with a suitable, separately available module.
An internal linear power supply powers the NT-1; a separate power supply is provided for the USB DAC output. An external clock source can be optionally connected, but is not required for normal operation. Compatible devices can be switched on together with the streamer via triggers.
Matrix Audio NT-1 and TT-1 Compared
Unlike the NT-1, the TT-1 offers Wi-Fi, requires less space due to its smaller enclosure, and is lighter. Its stated power consumption in mains operation is also lower. In contrast, the NT-1 features an SFP slot and an input for an external clock source. Its linear power supply is already integrated; on the TT-1, it can be supplemented with a separately available external power supply.
