McIntosh MP100 AC – Phono Preamp for Your Record Player
The McIntosh MP100 AC is a phono preamplifier that processes signals from a record player for output to a stereo system. With adjustable cartridge inputs and analog and digital outputs, it supports listening to and recording your records.
McIntosh MP100 AC Features at a Glance
- Cartridge Adjustment: MM and MC inputs can be adjusted to match the cartridge system in use.
- System Connection: Analog outputs allow integration into various systems.
- Vinyl Recordings: USB enables digitization on a computer with suitable software.
- Mono Playback: A dedicated switch supports mono records.
Adjusting the Cartridge with the McIntosh MP100 AC
Whether moving magnet or moving coil, the appropriate input can be adjusted to match the cartridge. For MM, the input capacitance is adjusted; for MC, the load resistance is adjusted.
Both input types offer six settings each. The selection should follow the cartridge manufacturer's recommendations.
Integrating the McIntosh MP100 AC into Your System
Balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA outputs connect the phono stage to a suitable analog input on the following system. This also allows an existing stereo or home theater system to be supplemented with a dedicated phono solution.
For exclusively analog playback, the digital outputs can be completely switched off. This disables the digital section.
Recording Records with the McIntosh MP100 AC
Having a favorite record available as a digital file expands the use of your collection. The music signal can be recorded to a computer using USB and a properly configured recording program.
Optical and coaxial digital outputs are also available. The digital output format is fixed.
During particularly loud passages, a clipping indicator warns of distortion. The digital output level can be reduced to avoid distortion during recording.
Listening to Mono Records with the McIntosh MP100 AC
A dedicated mono switch is available for mono recordings. It supports the correct playback of the mono signal while reducing interference.
