The Matrix Audio SC-1 is an external clock, providing a master clock signal for compatible streamers, digital-to-analog converters, and CD players. It is used when one or more devices in your system are to use a common external clock. This reduces "jitter" and ensures a cleaner overall sound experience.

Temperature Stability in the Matrix Audio SC-1

Inside, a specially designed OCXO with SC-cut quartz operates. The temperature-controlled chamber keeps the oscillator's operating conditions stable, thereby limiting the influence of temperature fluctuations on the clock signal.

Connecting Multiple Devices to the Matrix Audio SC-1

The four BNC outputs provide a common 10 MHz reference clock. Each output has its own buffer, so that multiple compatible components can be connected in parallel.

The connection is made using separately available coaxial cables with an impedance of 50 ohms. Before purchase, check the permissible reference frequency, signal form, and input level of your devices; any digital input is not a clock input.

Power Supply and Construction of the Matrix Audio SC-1

The linear power supply automatically detects the mains voltage and adjusts the transformer circuitry. The oven control and clock circuitry are powered via separate, multi-stage regulated power supplies to limit mutual interference.

CBVB device feet serve to absorb vibrations. The chassis cutouts and beveled edges adopt the design language of Matrix Audio; the silver finish blends visually into correspondingly designed systems.

Operation and Placement of the Matrix Audio SC-1

After switching it on, the flashing warm-up indicator shows that the temperature control is still working. As soon as it lights up continuously, the warm-up phase is complete. From a cold state, this takes approximately five minutes and depends on the ambient temperature.

The SC-1 outputs a clock signal even during warm-up. Additional active cooling or heating should be avoided, as it can impair the temperature stability of the controlled chamber.
