ORTHODYNAMIC™ Driver – Planar Magnetic Precision

At its core is the newly designed ORTHODYNAMIC™ driver, based on Yamaha's planar magnetic tradition since the 1970s. The ultra-light thin-film diaphragm with conductive coils on both sides reacts extremely quickly and precisely, making even the smallest tonal nuances and dynamic gradations audible. Yamaha deliberately refrains from using additional sound-absorbing materials and finely tunes each component – for a particularly natural, responsive, and accurate Orthodynamic™ sound.

Open-back housing with PET mesh filter – Spaciousness and Control

The generously sized, open-back housing completely encloses the ear, providing ample acoustic volume. This optimizes airflow, allows the diaphragm to operate under ideal conditions, and minimizes unwanted reflections in the rear cavity. A newly developed PET mesh filter precisely regulates the internal pressure, while an arched protrusion acts as a reflector, further increasing acoustic accuracy. The result: a natural, airy sound with a clearly defined soundstage and precisely locatable instruments.

Dynamics & Fine Detail – Ultra-light diaphragm with Air Damping

Micro-perforated air dampers on both sides of the diaphragm control its movement with extreme sensitivity. This keeps musical contrasts – from the quietest details to powerful passages – intact, without unnecessary compression or excessive harshness.

Premium Earpads for Immersion and Comfort

Exclusively developed for the YH-4000, the earpads combine luxurious synthetic suede on the contact surface with highly flexible PU leather at the edge. This hybrid construction unites the warmth and softness of velour with the control and resolution of classic leather pads. Fine perforations across the entire surface support an open, spacious sound image. The soft padding ensures that the headphones sit comfortably even during long sessions, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the music.

Lightweight Magnesium Housing & Thoughtful Ergonomics

The frame of the YH-4000 is made of magnesium – a material with excellent vibration damping and high rigidity at a very low weight. At approx. 320 g (without cable), the headphones feel pleasantly light. The two-layer headband with stainless steel arms is designed to optimize side pressure and minimize fatigue on the ears and head. The head cushion made of three-dimensionally woven material distributes pressure evenly, while the stepless slider allows for a finely adjustable, individual fit.

Angled Swivel Mechanism for a Perfect Fit

An angled swivel mechanism allows vertical movement of the earcups, ensuring that the housing sits securely and snugly behind the ear. Air leakage is reduced, bass remains rich and controlled, and the headphones maintain a stable, comfortable fit even when moving.

Design & Craftsmanship at Grand Piano Level

Visually, the YH-4000 emphasizes functional beauty: the open housing aperture is protected by a triaxial woven fabric also used in aerospace – robust, lightweight, and elegant in appearance. Every detail has been optimized for optics, haptics, and performance. The YH-4000 is manufactured at the Yamaha factory in Kakegawa, where flagship grand pianos and high-end audio components are also produced – with the utmost care, tightly toleranced processes, and strict quality control.
