The McIntosh XRT1.1K is a high-end floorstanding loudspeaker for high-quality HiFi systems. As a more compact alternative to the larger XRT2.1K, it was designed to integrate into more living environments without sacrificing powerful, room-filling music reproduction.

Line Array Design for a Wide Sound Field

The XRT1.1K's line array design distributes sound evenly and widely throughout the room. This creates a stable stereo image at many listening positions. People close to the speaker are not directly exposed to all drivers simultaneously, while more distant listening positions perceive more drivers on-axis. This allows the speaker to maintain a consistent sound image even at different distances.

Elaborate 4-Way Construction with 70 Drivers

The XRT1.1K employs a total of 70 individual drivers. These include woofers, bass-midrange drivers, upper midrange drivers, and tweeters. The bass and bass-midrange sections are housed in the large bass cabinet behind the line array. The upper midrange drivers and tweeters are located in the front line array unit. This arrangement combines powerful bass reproduction with finely resolved dispersion in the mid and high frequency ranges.

Technologies and Construction

The McIntosh XRT1.1K uses a bass-reflex supported 4-way system, line array technology, separate frequency ranges, an elaborately designed crossover, and Solid Cinch speaker terminals. The crossover works with low-loss, high-current capacity capacitors and inductors. In addition, self-resetting PTC fuses are used to protect the drivers. Terms such as line array, 4-way, tri-amping, tri-wiring, and McIntosh speakers describe the central technical features of this model.

Connectivity for Flexible System Concepts

Speaker cables are attached via gold-plated Solid Cinch speaker terminals. Separate connection areas are available for mid/high, bass, and subwoofer frequencies. This allows the XRT1.1K to be used for tri-amping or tri-wiring with a suitable system. This connection structure facilitates the setup of sophisticated speaker configurations.

Craftsmanship and Design

The bass cabinet features seven layers of high-gloss black piano lacquer. The design is complemented by brushed and black aluminum. The line array unit incorporates classic McIntosh design elements with a black center section and silver trim. The included speaker grilles are made of black knit fabric and are magnetically attached and optionally removable. The four adjustable feet help to safely align the speaker on the floor and ensure stable contact with the surface.

Difference between XRT1 and XRT2

The XRT1.1K is a large floorstanding loudspeaker, but it has been reduced in height and weight compared to the XRT2.1K. This allows it to be used in more living environments.
