Audio-Technica's new AT-VMx series brings fresh warmth, realism, and finer dynamics to the world of Dual Moving Magnet cartridges. Inspired by the design of professional cutting heads, two magnets are used, precisely aligned with the left and right sides of the record groove. The result: excellent channel separation, an extended frequency response, and a detailed soundstage.
The AT-VM510xCB is equipped with a conical, bonded diamond stylus (0.6 mil) that reliably tracks the center of the record groove. This guarantees consistent performance, high robustness, and a long lifespan. In combination with the aluminum cantilever, it offers stable tracking and ensures a clean, warm sound.
Particularly noteworthy is the newly developed generator with a para-toroidal coil construction. Two PCUHD® copper coils arranged in series per channel significantly increase efficiency. Additionally, a central shielding plate separates the two channels, which reduces crosstalk and makes the stereo image even clearer. Due to the reduced number of coil windings, the cartridge reacts more quickly to dynamic changes, conveying a clear, direct sound – almost like live.
The robust, low-resonance polymer housing provides additional stability. With practical threaded inserts, the cartridge can be easily mounted, while the new V-shaped cutout in the stylus guard allows for quick orientation when lowering the stylus.
This makes the AT-VM510xCB a versatile, durable, and musically warm MM cartridge that, as the basic model of the VMx series, already combines Audio-Technica's most important innovations.
