The VM610MONO adds a true specialist for mono records to Audio-Technica's renowned VM series. The cartridge uses the internationally patented dual moving magnet principle, which is modeled after the design of a cutting head for vinyl master records.
Instead of a single large magnet, two small magnets are used in a precise V-shape, precisely aligned with the groove walls of the record. This allows the system to achieve outstanding signal separation, an extended frequency response, and exceptionally precise tracking capabilities.
The mono body of the 600 series is internally wired, so that the signals from the left and right channels are merged. This design reduces disruptive extraneous noise – especially those resulting from vertical movements – and ensures a stably centered soundstage, as required by mono recordings.
Inside, a para-toroidal coil unit operates, achieving particularly high efficiency thanks to its symmetrical construction. Thanks to the laminated core structure, magnetic permeability is additionally optimized, leading to clear, linear sound reproduction.
The conical, bonded stylus (0.6 mil) precisely tracks the center of the groove, ensuring solid, powerful sound with stable performance. The hardened aluminum cantilever guarantees safe and durable tracking, while the low-resonance polymer housing effectively minimizes unwanted vibrations.
