Description
Deep bass down to 15 Hz
The frequency response of 15 to 320 Hz ± 3 dB shows that the subwoofer can reproduce very deep bass. This is particularly relevant for film sound, LFE effects, electronic music, orchestral passages, and other bass-intensive content.
App control for easy
adjustment
The SVS Subwoofer Control App is compatible with Apple iOS, Google Android, and Amazon Fire. Volume, low-pass filter, phase, polarity, six parametric EQs, room gain compensation, presets, and power management can be conveniently set via the app.
OLED display and on-device controls
An OLED display on the back provides direct access to central functions. These include volume, low-pass filter frequency, phase, power mode, display flip, Bluetooth lock, firmware version, and factory reset.
Why a subwoofer makes sense
A subwoofer makes sense because it precisely reproduces deep frequencies that normal speakers often can only reproduce to a limited extent. This results in a significantly fuller, more dynamic sound with palpable bass, more spaciousness, and a more intense listening experience.
Active or passive subwoofer: What is better here?
The SB-17 Ultra R|Evolution is an active subwoofer with an integrated STA-2800 Class-D amplifier. For this product, the active design makes sense because the amplifier, DSP, protection functions, app control, and drivers are directly matched and integrated.
What room size does the subwoofer require?
We recommend a room size of 25 m² to 60 m² (medium to very large rooms) for the subwoofer.
Where should a subwoofer not be placed?
The subwoofer should not be placed near water, heat sources, or without sufficient ventilation in confined furniture. Ventilation openings must not be blocked, as the amplifier needs to be cooled.
Corner placement can be good, but not always
Corner placement can reduce bass cancellations and make the bass sound more powerful. At the same time, depending on the listening position, it can lead to boomy bass; in that case, more distance to the walls or adjustment via the control functions helps.
Good positions in the room
A front placement between or next to the front speakers supports the blending with main speakers and center channel. A side wall position can also work if accuracy and performance in the room come together better there.
Furthermore, we recommend a minimum distance of 10 to 15 cm from the wall. Since the subwoofer is constructed in a sealed enclosure without a rear bass reflex port, it can be placed significantly more flexibly near a wall than a comparable bass reflex model like the PB-17 Ultra.
Two subwoofers for more even bass
The operation of two or more subwoofers can improve frequency response, bass distribution, and performance in the listening area.
Connections for home theater and stereo
For home theater setups, the LFE connection via RCA or XLR is key. In stereo systems, left and right line-level or balanced XLR outputs of a preamplifier can be connected to the subwoofer's inputs.
Wireless option with separately available adapter
A USB port provides power for the SVS SoundPath Wireless Audio Adapter, which is sold separately. This eliminates the need for the connection cable from the source device to the subwoofer.
Does SVS make good subwoofers?
The SB-17 Ultra R|Evolution shows SVS's clear focus on subwoofer technology: large long-throw driver, powerful amplifier, high-resolution DSP, app control, stable MDF construction, Iso-Elastomer feet, and a 5-year warranty. The strength here lies not only in performance, but also in control, adjustability, and integration.
