HIGH-LEVEL ANALOG MUSIC PLAYBACK
ELECTRONIC SPEED CONTROL
Maintaining precise speed is extremely important, as the human ear is very sensitive to temporary speed changes, known as "wow and flutter." Wow and flutter include slow cyclical speed changes, such as those that can occur with a highly warped record when the needle moves faster on the ascending side and slower on the descending side, leading to abrupt changes in pitch. On the other hand, wow and flutter can be very fast and small variations, such as those sometimes generated by the motor. In the C 588, both these problems are eliminated with proven and effective solutions. The special, high-precision, synchronously clocked motor is driven by a stable AC voltage. For this purpose, we first convert the AC voltage into a clean DC voltage and then electronically generate the exact AC frequency to control the synchronous motor. A specially developed belt further isolates the platter from possible remaining vibrations. All rotating parts are made from an aluminum alloy that has been machined to very tight tolerances to avoid eccentricity and vibrations in the drive system.
TONEARM AND CARTRIDGE
The C 588 features a specially designed carbon fiber tonearm shaft with a fixed metal headshell, a decoupled counterweight, and magnetic anti-skate compensation. The factory-installed Ortofon 2M Red cartridge offers excellent tracking characteristics and a finely nuanced sound. The C 588 uses a longer than usual 9" tonearm to optimize overhang and reduce tracking error. To perfectly align the stylus, azimuth and vertical tracking angle can be adjusted – a calibration template is included with the device.

Manufacturer information
C588
At first glance, the NAD C 588 looks very similar to its more affordable sibling. However, beneath the hood of this innovative turntable lie numerous special features, which are also reflected in a more refined sound quality. For instance, the C 588's regulated synchronous motor is supplied with an absolutely clean and stable AC voltage by the power supply, which first converts the 230 V from the wall socket into a DC voltage and then electronically generates a precise AC frequency. Furthermore, electronic speed control ensures a very consistent rotational speed of the glass platter. A special drive belt, a solid chassis made of high-density MDF, and decoupled feet protect the drive unit from potential motor vibrations and external oscillations. A high-quality Ortofon 2M Red magnetic cartridge is factory-mounted in the headshell of the 9-inch carbon tonearm. Anti-skating, vertical tracking angle, and azimuth are individually adjustable.
