The McIntosh DA2 Digital Audio Module Upgrade Kit is an optional upgrade for McIntosh components featuring the DA1 Digital Audio Module. It expands digital audio processing and adds HDMI ARC for TV audio to the existing digital connectivity options.
Further Development of the DA1 Module
The DA2 builds upon the DA1 and extends its range of functions. It utilizes a Quad Balanced Digital-to-Analog Converter, or DAC for short. A DAC converts digital audio signals into analog signals so they can be played back through the connected McIntosh component.
TV Sound via HDMI ARC
The HDMI ARC port is exclusively for audio from compatible TV sets. This allows TV sound to be played back through your home stereo system. HDMI ARC does not transmit video to or from the TV, and audio from non-TV sources will not be played back through this port.
Operation and Synchronization
ARC can enable two-way communication between the DA2-equipped device and a compatible TV. This includes volume control and lip-sync functions to ensure audio and video are synchronized. When CEC communication is enabled, the TV remote can control the power and volume of the connected McIntosh component.
Digital Sources and Audio Formats
The USB input supports native playback up to DSD512 as well as DXD up to 384 kHz. Coaxial and optical inputs can decode digital music. Dolby and DTS multichannel formats are supported and converted to 2-channel audio for playback via the DA2-equipped device.
MCT Connection for
SACD Playback
The proprietary MCT input provides a secure Custom DSD connection. In conjunction with MCT500 and MCT80 SACD/CD transports, high-definition audio from SACDs can be played back.
