Description
The P20 is an entry-level preamplifier, offering an affordable gateway to the Hegel Reference product line. The design of the P20 was not a task Hegel took lightly. Many of the ideas and concepts were adopted from its bigger brother. While scaled down, many of the good qualities remain – the enormous soundstage, the deep rhythmic bass response, the perfect timing... In short, the feeling of being there with the performers.
The P20 comes with a high-quality system remote control, milled from a solid piece of aluminum. It has the same bead-blasted and anodized surface finish as the preamplifier itself. You can truly feel the quality of each part of the P20, not just hear it. There are a total of 5 regular inputs, both balanced and unbalanced. Additionally, a dedicated home theatre input allows for integration into home theatre systems. Finally, there are both balanced and unbalanced outputs, as well as a fixed line-level output.
The idea behind the P20, as mentioned, was to provide a more affordable entry into the Separate Series. Most importantly, it was to set a new standard for price and performance in preamplifiers. The preamplifier is perhaps the most delicate component in a sound system. With such low signal levels, even the slightest noise or distortion smears the picture and obscures the small details that bring music to life.
In developing the P20, Hegel achieved the highest sound quality at such a low price by employing brand-new technologies, such as silicon-germanium transistors. In addition, we have used high-frequency components not originally designed for audio, employing them in ways never before seen. The result is an open and natural-sounding preamplifier at a very competitive price.
