SVS SB-5000 R|Evolution: SVS Subwoofer for Home Cinema and HiFi
Low frequency down to 13 Hz for palpable bass reproduction
The 15-inch driver with a fiberglass composite cone is designed for high excursion and precise movement.
Dual-mono amplifier with MOSFET output
The Sledge STA-2000D is built-in. The dual-mono Class D amplifier operates with two monoblock amplifiers.
SVS Subwoofer App for easy operation
The SVS Subwoofer Control App allows you to adjust volume, filters, phase, EQ, power options, and other functions. This allows the subwoofer to be adjusted from the listening position.
Operation directly on the device
In addition to the app, the back panel offers an OLED and button interface. This allows you to control volume, low-pass filter frequency, phase, power mode, display orientation, Bluetooth lock, and factory settings.
Setup in the SVS App
After installing the SVS App, a tutorial guides you through the available options. For everyday use, volume, low-pass filter, phase, parametric EQ, room gain compensation, and presets are particularly important.
The presets are suitable for different content such as music, movies, or night mode. This allows the bass to be quickly adjusted without having to reset all settings.
Connecting an active subwoofer: AV receiver and stereo
For home cinema, the most common connection is a single RCA or XLR cable from the LFE or SUB1 output of the AV receiver to the LFE input of the SB-5000 R|Evolution. The AV receiver then handles bass management.
In a stereo system, the left and right line outputs of the preamplifier are connected to the left and right inputs of the subwoofer. Afterwards, the integrated low-pass filter is set so that the bass blends smoothly with the main speakers.
Where should a subwoofer not be placed?
A subwoofer should not be placed in a position where the bass is strongly boomy or individual bass ranges disappear. Corners, in particular, can produce very powerful bass, but can also amplify booming if the listening position is unfavorable.
The SB-5000 R|Evolution should also not be operated in unventilated furniture. Ventilation openings must not be blocked, and placement near water or heat sources should be avoided.
Good positions for bass and integration
Placement at the front of the room, between or near the front speakers, usually facilitates matching with main speakers and the center channel. A position on the side wall can also work if the accuracy and performance in the room are right.
With two subwoofers, diagonal corners, the front stage, the middle of the side walls, or a position near the center channel are possible. Since every room reacts differently, experimentation remains an important part of the setup.
Multiple subwoofers and dual operation
The SB-5000 R|Evolution can be integrated into systems with multiple subwoofers via RCA or XLR outputs. Multiple subwoofers can make the frequency response in the listening area more even, reduce peaks and cancellations, and reduce bass localization.
What does "active subwoofer" mean?
An active subwoofer has an integrated amplifier. In the SVS SB-5000 R|Evolution, the STA-2000D amplifier provides power directly to the subwoofer, while the AV receiver or preamplifier provides the audio signal.
Why an active subwoofer fits more easily into systems
An active subwoofer does not require a separate external power amplifier setup for the bass. The SB-5000 R|Evolution is powered directly and integrated into a home cinema or stereo system via RCA, XLR, or LFE.
15-inch driver with controlled movement
The 15-inch fiberglass cone offers a balanced ratio of stiffness and low mass. The highly excursive rubber surround supports long, clear movements of the cone, ensuring deep frequencies remain controlled.
The dual 3-inch voice coil stably transfers the amplifier's energy to the cone.
295 MHz DSP for room control
The integrated 295 MHz DSP manages the amplifier, drive, and driver. This allows frequency adjustment, monitoring, and protection functions to be controlled so that the subwoofer operates cleanly and stably in the room.
