Description
Precise, stable rotation and powerful drive torque
Direct drive uses a slow-running motor that drives the platter directly on the same axis. This system offers many advantages such as best rotational stability, high drive torque, pleasant maintenance-free operation and outstanding reliability over the entire lifespan. However, older direct drive motors were characterized by so-called cogging torque, small micro-vibrations resulting from magnetic repolarization processes. The SL-1210MK7 uses a new drive motor whose stator is coreless. Therefore, this motor is also free of cogging torque. The gap between the coreless stator and the rotor (drive magnets) has been minimized to maximize the drive torque. This allowed for a torque equivalent to that of the SL-1200MK5.
New functions for more creativity
Adjustable start and brake torque
The SL-1210MK7 impresses with innovative motor control technologies. These have been primarily used and perfected in the latest generation of Blu-ray players. A microcomputer allows the controller to easily handle both normal playback and more demanding DJ applications such as scratching. In addition, the starting torque and braking speed can be adjusted to individual preferences.
Pitch function for fine-tuning the speed
The rotational speed of the SL-1210MK7 can be set to 33-1/3, 45 or 78 rpm.* The pitch adjustment range is ±8%/±16%. This allows for highly precise and stable fine adjustment of the speed as well as perfect matching, e.g., of two SL-1210MK7 units in DJ operation. *The use of 78 rpm is activated via the main on/off switch.
Reverse play function
If the speed button and the start/stop button are pressed simultaneously, the platter rotates in the opposite direction*. This opens up new, creative possibilities for the DJ. *The reverse play function is activated via the main on/off switch.
*The pickup system must be designed for scratch operation.
Highly sensitive tonearm
The tonearm is statically balanced in an S-shape – typical for Technics models. The tonearm tube is made of lightweight, high-strength aluminum, while the bearing section of the gimbal suspension features a machined housing and high-precision bearing elements. This ensures excellent tracking with a minimum of unwanted needle movements even under harsh conditions, such as scratching.
Stylus illumination with bright, durable LED
The telescopic stylus illumination uses a new push mechanism and a bright, durable white LED. In addition, the illumination area and intensity have been adjusted. Compared to previous models, this ensures better visibility of the stylus – even in very dark environments.
Detachable power and signal cable for greater flexibility
The power and phono cables of the SL-1210MK7 are detachable, so they can be quickly replaced. The gold-plated phono connection sockets ensure best sound quality and contact properties.
Highly stable chassis and effective damping feet
The chassis of the SL-1210MK7 is very stable and extremely low in vibration. The die-cast aluminum chassis is firmly attached to a construction made of ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene copolymer) plastic, which is reinforced with glass fibers. The two-layer construction offers the highest level of strength and vibration damping, thus guaranteeing faithful, dynamic sound reproduction. Feet made of a spring-rubber construction provide optimal damping. They also ensure stability in horizontal movement. This combination guarantees easy handling, especially when scratching, and very good immunity to interference – even at very high sound levels.
