Description
The Hegel V10 is a brand new interpretation of old technology. With 30 years of experience in developing cutting-edge discrete transistor circuits, Hegel has built a phono preamplifier like no other. It is neutral, dynamic, and exceptionally insightful. They have harnessed all their knowledge in amplification and aimed it at one goal – to get into the grooves of the record and reveal every last bit of information. The V10 is designed to capture the sound. To bring you closer to the music. To get you in the groove.
Listening to vinyl is a tactile experience. You carefully open the record sleeve, take the record out of its inner sleeve, inspect it for dust or scratches, place it on the platter, and gently drop the needle to let the sound pour out. It's just you and your music, chosen for that exact moment. With the V10, Hegel wants to make this special experience even better. Designed from the ground up and packed with truly clever and unique technologies, the V10 gives you unprecedented transparency and soundscape – the music you hear becomes as tangible and real as the record it's pressed into.
They achieve this because everything about the V10 has been designed with the sole purpose of making your music sound as good as possible. The chassis is divided into two sections, physically separating the power supplies from the sensitive amplifier circuits. There are simply no detectable interferences between the two parts. For the best possible connection, they have equipped the V10 with gold-plated connectors, balanced XLR outputs, and a massive, custom grounding screw. In the important input stage, they have used ultra-low-noise discrete JFET transistors for both the Moving Magnet (MM) and Moving Coil (MC) inputs. Eliminating extraneous noise is particularly important when using sensitive, low-output MC cartridges. That's why Hegel has equipped the MC input with four such transistors connected in parallel. This makes the input completely silent and prevents any feedback of the bias current to the cartridge coil.
The input signal is fed into equally silent amplifier circuits, with both MM and MC gain stages operating with ultra-low-noise power supplies built with discrete bipolar transistors to minimize signal noise. This ensures extremely accurate amplification of the input signal coming from the turntable. And to ensure the V10 receives the best operating conditions, it is powered by a linear, low-noise, analog AC power supply. This features a large, custom-made E-core transformer housed in its own enclosure to eliminate any possibility of interference. For Hegel, it was particularly important that all vinyl lovers could enjoy the V10. Therefore, it is configured out-of-the-box as an excellent plug-and-play MM preamplifier. For many, this is exactly what they want and need, but some want even more. That's why they have made the V10 highly optimizable to suit individual preferences and setup requirements. The V10 can be adjusted for any MM and MC cartridge.
When using an MM cartridge, you can freely increase the capacitance between 100 and 467 pF, and when using an MC cartridge, the impedance can be freely set between 33 and 550 ohms or fixed at 47 kOhms. For both MM and MC, the gain can be increased by 5, 10, or 12 dB to match the output of your other sources. The V10 even features a subsonic filter to remove unwanted low-frequency noise. And at the end of the night, when the listening session goes well past bedtime and you forget to turn off the V10, the adjustable auto-standby function will do it for you. All of this makes the V10 the perfect companion for your vinyl setup. It finds the perfect synergy between your system and your listening preferences. Transporting you into the groove.
