The Matrix Audio MS-1c is a music streamer with an integrated DAC and digital volume control for amplifiers and active speakers. It brings streaming services and your own music collection into the system while also allowing you to continue using an external DAC.

Streaming and Music Archive with the Matrix Audio MS-1c
Whether new releases or familiar albums: TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, and Spotify Connect are available alongside AirPlay 2, Roon Ready, and DLNA/UPnP. The MA Remote app for iPhone, iPad, and Android brings music selection and device settings together; album art and title information also remain visible on the display.
Your own collection can be stored on a NAS, USB storage, or an optional internal NVMe SSD. Its contents are accessible on the local network and can also be made available to other streamers. Gigabit Ethernet and Wi-Fi 6 are available for network connectivity.
With a separately available USB CD drive, the MS-1c also plays CDs and can import them as files into the music archive. This keeps your existing collection available even without a permanently inserted disc.
Amplifiers and External DACs with the Matrix Audio MS-1c
The MS-1c connects to the analog system via balanced XLR or unbalanced RCA outputs. The switchable digital volume control also enables direct operation with power amplifiers or active speakers.
If an existing DAC is to handle the conversion, optical and coaxial outputs, AES/EBU, USB Audio, and IIS-LVDS are available. USB in particular opens up an alternative to classic S/PDIF connections; the usable audio formats are additionally determined by the connected converter.
DAC and Analog Stage of the Matrix Audio MS-1c
Inside, the MS-1c combines the AKM AK4191 and AK4499EX chips with Lundahl audio transformers for signal coupling in the analog stage. Separate power supplies for the digital and analog circuits, as well as a linear power supply for the analog stage, complement this design.
Separate femtosecond clocks are available for the two sampling rate families. Those who wish to fine-tune the playback can also use the sound color settings for PCM; DSD is excluded from this.
Enclosure and Placement of the Matrix Audio MS-1c
The CNC-machined aluminum enclosure adopts the design of the M Series with its circular hole pattern. The MA-DAMPER-STD feet, developed together with Audio Bastion, feature internal silicone damping to absorb external vibrations.
