There are product categories where a renowned manufacturer has been absent for a long time – and then suddenly enters with full force. That's exactly what's happening now: DALI, known for speakers that effortlessly fill the listening room, is launching its first wireless all-in-one system. A single enclosure that replaces the entire system – amplifier, streamer, speakers, controls, all included. The name: DALI VEGA. And those familiar with the usual suspects in this segment will already suspect: the last one to arrive wants to do it particularly well.

We have taken a close look at the VEGA – from concept to technology to connections – and will classify for you who this system is worthwhile for.

Who is the DALI VEGA for?

The DALI VEGA is aimed at anyone who wants high-quality sound but doesn't want a tower of devices with tangled cables. A device that functions as a compact hi-fi hub in the living room, provides background music in the kitchen, or hangs on the wall in the bedroom – without the room having to be subordinated to the system. Those already in the BluOS ecosystem (e.g., with devices from Bluesound or NAD) can seamlessly integrate the VEGA into their existing multiroom system. And those who are new to it will find a well-thought-out operating concept that they can immediately get to grips with, even without a degree in technology.

Design & Craftsmanship

DALI relies on understatement rather than showmanship for the VEGA. The enclosure combines classic, simple forms with finely resolved 3D surfaces and high-quality materials: individually woven fabrics meet fine lacquer, anodized aluminum, and real wood veneer. The result appears both striking and understated – a device that looks good even when switched off.

The VEGA is available in two versions: one in dark oak with black anodized aluminum and dark gray fabric, and one in light oak with silver and lighter fabric. This allows the system to blend into a wide variety of living environments.

One detail that makes the Danes' meticulousness tangible is the volume control. Behind the reassuringly rich, weighted turning feel lies an 80mm military-grade ball bearing that runs quietly and precisely – every mechanical and electronic component of this control is developed and manufactured by DALI in-house. Other manufacturers could certainly take a leaf out of their book.

Placement & Mounting

The greatest strength of an all-in-one system is its flexibility – and here the VEGA excels. You can place it freely on a table, shelf, sideboard, or windowsill, or hang it on the wall with the included bracket: either horizontally (landscape) or vertically (portrait).

To ensure acoustic performance, an internal orientation sensor automatically detects how the device is positioned and adjusts channel assignment and EQ via DSP – DALI calls this Adaptive Orientation Adjustment. The OLED display also rotates automatically, so you never have to read the display with your head tilted. For free placement, three wall-distance settings are available (Free, Medium, Short), depending on whether the VEGA is freestanding, closer to the wall, or in a corner. For wall mounting, the wall distance is adjusted automatically.

If you plan wall mounting, you should consider the position of the power outlet early on so that the cabling remains as invisible as possible – the system should appear to float freely on the wall.

Technology & Inner Workings

Underneath the calm surface lies a lot of technology. The VEGA works with ten drivers: four 11.43 cm (4.5 inch) woofer/midrange drivers with DALI's characteristic paper-wood fiber cone, four 2.5 cm (1 inch) soft dome tweeters, and two rectangular passive radiators at the ends of the enclosure. The drivers are located both at the front and at the back – this back-to-back arrangement is the basis for flexible adaptation to different installation locations.

The entire system is powered by eight Class-D amplifier channels, each with 50 watts, for a total output of 400 watts. DALI uses a Bridge-Tied-Load (BTL) principle, which reduces distortion and increases efficiency. This allows peak levels of up to 110 dB. The two passive radiators provide deep bass, allowing the system to reach down to 32 Hz – a remarkable value for such a compact enclosure.

A special feature is Adaptive Stereo Enhancement™ (ASE) technology, a patent-pending DALI proprietary development. It ensures that a single device creates a spatial stereo soundstage, as otherwise only known from two separately placed loudspeakers. For intimate listening situations in a small room, ASE can also be switched off if required.

The Drivers in Detail

The woofer/midrange driver with the paper-wood fiber cone typical of DALI: The wood fibers in the diaphragm material prevent uniform resonances, thus ensuring smoother breakup behavior – a technology that DALI brings from its passive loudspeaker series.

And finally, the enclosure itself: DALI calls the construction Tuned Mass Enclosure. The cross-section shows how massive and carefully braced the structure is – a prerequisite for an enclosure of this size to handle 400 watts without resonating itself.

Operation & App

DALI places great emphasis on seamless music playback with the VEGA. You don't have to reach for your smartphone: the device can be operated directly on the body – via the OLED display, the weighted volume wheel, and a series of tactile buttons for source selection and presets. Up to 40 presets can be programmed, for example, for favorite stations or playlists. A compact remote control is also included.

Those who prefer to control via app use the BluOS App. It is the central control platform, tidy and intuitive, and also opens the door to the complete BluOS multiroom ecosystem. Multiple VEGA units or other BluOS devices can be controlled together with it.

Connections & Connectivity

In terms of connections, the VEGA proves to be pleasantly versatile. Wired, there is an HDMI ARC input (for easy connection to the TV, stereo playback), an analog RCA input, an optical Toslink input, and a USB port for audio and service purposes. Additionally, there are LAN and Wi-Fi.

Wirelessly, the VEGA supports Bluetooth (with aptX and aptX HD), Apple AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, and Qobuz Connect. Via BluOS, services such as TuneIn Radio and Radio Paradise can also be used, and thanks to Hi-Res and MQA support, the system also outputs high-resolution material. A source from another room – such as a turntable – can even be integrated wirelessly via a BluOS hub or a Bluesound device.

Outputs include a subwoofer output (with a low-pass filter at 120 Hz) for additional deep bass and a USB power output (5 V / 1 A). A small note for vinyl fans: an optional turntable requires an integrated phono preamplifier or an external phono stage, as the VEGA itself does not have a phono input.

Sound Impression

Even if a product introduction is not the place for an extensive sound comparison: the first listening impression of the VEGA is truly impressive. In various environments, the system adapts optimally, and the ASE technology actually creates the feeling of a wide stereo soundstage from a single enclosure. If you want to convince yourself, it's best to listen to it in peace – more on that below.

Scope of Delivery

In the box, you will find the DALI VEGA, a remote control including batteries, a power cable, the wall bracket, the necessary mounting accessories, and the documentation. Everything you need to get started right away – whether freestanding or wall-mounted.

Price & Availability

The DALI VEGA costs €2,999 (list price). Since there are currently not many units in Germany, the system can already be pre-ordered in our shop – this way you secure one of the first copies. A demonstration unit in the store will follow a little later; if you would like to hear the VEGA on site, please contact us so that we can inform you as soon as a demonstration is possible.

Honest Classification

Because this is a Fidelity presentation and not a promotional video, we also allow ourselves a few critical remarks. The VEGA does not offer a headphone function, and the Bluetooth currently does not work bidirectionally. Apart from the subwoofer output, there are also no other outputs – the operation of external power amplifiers, active speakers, or recording devices is therefore not intended. The angled power cable on the device side would also be more practical for wall mounting if it were angled on the socket side – but this can easily be solved independently. All in all, this is complaining at a high level: concept, workmanship, and operation are convincing across the board.
